Robert D. Cagwin, age 82 of New Lenox, Illinois went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 19, 2021. Born in Joliet, Illinois on October 25, 1938. Raised on the family farm in Homer Township where his love of horses began. A 1957 graduate of Lockport Township High School. He was a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran. Retired from Caterpillar as a Purchasing Analyst after 37 years of service. Survived by one son Mark (Christine) Cagwin, one daughter Nancy Cagwin, three grandchildren who he loved and adored, Rachel, Anna and Joshua Cagwin. Three sisters, Edna Cagwin, Shirley (Lewis) Barr, Sandra (Donald) Carey, sister-in-law Jean Cagwin, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by his wife, Judith (Kadletz) Cagwin, his parents, Elvis and Alta (Watters) Cagwin, four brothers, Harlow, Don, Elvis and Howard Cagwin, one sister Hazel (Joe deceased) Aschenbrenner, one nephew Darryl Barr and his wife’s parents Robert J. and Mildred (Malcolm) Kadletz.
In 1970, together with his wife and children he moved to the Manhattan area to live the American dream. He purchased a small farm where he raised many fruit trees for family members and friends to enjoy, hay crops, and Appaloosa and Quarter Horses. One Appaloosa, King Beaver Creek, who he raised from a colt, won Grand Champion Stallion at the 1970 Illinois State Fair. It was in the 1980’s when he became a born-again Christian. He was a former member of Faith Bible Church. He also attended Crossroads Community Church where he served in the Manna Ministries, Building and Grounds during the construction, and together with his wife in the MOPS Ministry. He truly had a tender, servants’ heart. In recent years he attended the “Chapel Bible Study” led by Pastor Vernon C. Lyons. He had a great love for God, his family and all God’s creatures great and small. Robert’s family would like to thank the Home Based Primary Care team at Hines VA Hospital, with special appreciation to Nurse Ruth Christ.
Services will be held on Friday, April 23, 2021 at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 102 E. Francis Road, New Lenox, Illinois. Visitation will begin at 10 am with Funeral service at noon. Internment at Elmhurst Cemetery in Joliet, Illinois will be held privately for immediate family. Social distancing and masks are MADATORY for ALL in attendance. No food is allowed in the funeral home.
