Pauline B. Kirk

Pauline "Polly" Bernice Bernardi Kirk, died peacefully in her home in New Lenox, Illinois on Friday, March 27, 2015. She had just celebrated her 70th birthday.

Polly was born on March 23, 1945 to the late Margaret Ann and Edward Paul Bernardi in Danville, Illinois and resided there into her early adult years. She was a graduate of Schlarman High School.

Polly worked for Illinois Bell and AT&T for over 30 years. She was proud of her work with the company and held numerous positions but completed her career as Project Manager. She was able to retire early to devote time to her family.

Family meant everything to Polly. Even though geographically, they were not close, Polly's presence and love was felt constantly. She took annual trips to Portland, Oregon to spend time with her sister, the late, Margaret Ann Bernardi Hmura, as well as her brother, Edward Paul Bernardi and both of their families. She is remembered as "Aunt Polly" even by those who were not related to her. She was a fun aunt and great-aunt who spoiled and treated her nieces and nephews as her own children. She always put others before herself. Polly will be greatly missed.

Polly is survived by her brother, Edward Paul Bernardi (Portland, Oregon); nieces and nephews, Angie Hmura Deuth (Tigard, Oregon), Michael Hmura (Salem, Oregon), Dirk Hmura (Portland, Oregon), Erin Bernardi (Portland, Oregon), and Caitlin Bernardi (Portland, Oregon); and great-nieces (Maggie, Haley, Carly, Allison, and Jane) and great-nephew (Benjamin). She leaves behind her best friend and companion of 38 years, Peter Passas of New Lenox, Illinois.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made out to St. Jude's Children Research Hospital and Joliet Area Community Hospice.
