Born Patsy Lou Brown, Patricia "Patti" McCarthy was born in Hollywood California. She loved life among the stars, rubbing elbows with the big names of her heyday and enjoying the beautiful beaches and nature of her beloved state of California, where she graduated from Hollywood High School.
She met and married Jerry Gillen and they had a wonderful daughter, Lori. She brought Lori with her into a new life when she met Carl, working for him at his speakeasy, The Rumbleseat. Love bloomed and they were married on June 8, 1963.
They led a very adventurous life together and had three children, Scott, Shannon and Casey.
She was right back to rubbing elbows with the stars after Carl started his career at NBC. They made a great deal of friends and traveled all over the world.
She loved sports, football in particular and got to go to many games as part of the crew, enjoying them right from the booth!
She loved cooking and entertaining, throwing many memorable parties with friends and family all around.
Every year the family would gather with all their friends from NBC to spend a beautiful and fun week at Refugio Beach in Santa Barbara, California for the NBC Fishing Derby. She ran the tournament like a top, being the official scorekeeper of the event, which she reveled in. Oh and who could forget the demand for her famous "Patti" cake pancakes!
She lost Carl in 1985 but family and friends gathered around and she became fiercely independent. She traveled to Ireland and Australia, living life to it's fullest.
She settled in Pacific Beach, California for a time and fell in love with that town. She came back to family when she moved to Garland, Texas to be near daughter Lori. Eventually she made her way to Chicago, Illinois to be near daughter Casey and her husband Tony.
She met an amazing man in Illinois, Sherwin Glaser. They had ten wonderful years together before he succumbed to the MS he bravely fought for years.
She lived an incredible life and experienced things that most of us only dream. She was a firecracker and left us, as she lived her life, on her terms.
She passed peacefully, in her sleep.
We love you Mom
We will miss you so
Say Hi to everyone for us
The family and very close friends will be having a private wake to celebrate her life.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the ASPCA, whom she supported all her life. She loved her animals very much.
