Nancy G. Murphy

Nancy (Gottschalk) Murphy of Frankfort passed away unexpectedly on March 10, 2023 with her family by her side. She was born on February 6, 1955, and grew up in Park Forest and Flossmoor, Illinois. She also resided in Pelham Manor, New York while in high school. Beloved daughter of Norma (nee Schaloske) and the late Arthur R. Gottschalk; cherished sister of Betsy Gottschalk and Sally (the late Sam) Cimmarusti; adored aunt of David (fiancée Bre McGarvie) Cimmarusti and Amy (Cameron) Gunderson; and treasured great aunt of Cole, Reed, and Lena Gunderson. Nancy attended Pelham Memorial High School in Pelham, New York and graduated from Homewood Flossmoor High School in 1973, where she was a member of the Viking Choir and was a singer and dancer in musicals. Nancy earned a degree in English education from the University of Illinois in 1977, where she was a member of the Alpha Phi Sorority and the University Choir. Nancy worked as an administrative coordinator for many years. Nancy was a gifted writer and was a contributor to community organizations. An avid reader, she was passionate about music, literature, classic films, and politics. Nancy was devoted to her family and was a bright light in their lives. She was caring, kind, and giving to all whose lives she touched. Nancy will be forever missed by her adoring family. Services in celebration of Nancy’s life will be held on Saturday, April 15 at Flossmoor Community Church, 2218 Hutchinson Road in Flossmoor, with visitation from 1:30pm to 2:30pm followed by the service at 2:30pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in Nancy's memory may be made to: "Northwestern Memorial Foundation" at PO Box 734985, Chicago, Illinois 60673-4985.
