Judith Ann Wessel nee Schahl
Judy Wessel age 72 of Lockport, IL passed away on Friday, September 27, 2013 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice home. Judy is survived by her loving husband of fifty years: Jerry Wessel; sons: Steven (Lesley); Mark (Michele); grandsons: Nicholas and Alexander; granddaughters: Hannah, Taylor, Holly, and Kelsey; sisters: Louetta Lewis, Shirley Helton, and Janet White; and sister-in-law: Lois Schahl. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Judy was preceded in death by her parents: Norman and Ruby Schahl; one infant brother; brother: Clifford Schahl; and brother-in-law: Robert Lewis. Judy was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Lockport where she was a Sunday school teacher, member of St. Paul's Education Committee, and member of the Hannah Guild. She was a past member of the Lockport branch of the American Association of University Women, the IFT and AFT, and present member of Grand Haven's Book Club. Judy grew up in Mt. Pulaski, Illinois where she attended Zion Lutheran grade school and Mt. Pulaski high school. She received her bachelor's degree in education from Illinois State University in 1963. After graduating from ISU, she taught at the primary grade school level for 25+ years in Bloomington, Lockport, Romeoville, and Bolingbrook, Illinois. The family will receive friends on Monday, September 30th, 2013 at Goodale Memorial Chapel, 912 S. Hamilton St., Lockport, IL 60441 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Lying In State, Tuesday, October 1st, 2013 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 1500 S. Briggs St., Lockport, IL., 60441, from 10:00 AM until time of Funeral Service at 11:00 AM. Interment Mount Vernon Memorial Estates, Lemont, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Paul's Lutheran Pre-school, Joliet Area Community Hospice Home, American Cancer Society or American Heart Association appreciated.
