Mr. Walter "Butch" Kaszubski

Walter "Butch" Kaszubski, age 72, of Makanda, IL, passed away early Tuesday, June 6, 2017,surrounded by his family, after battling a long illness. Butch was born into a large Italian family in Chicago Heights, IL, on May 7, 1945, to Walter and Rose (nee Prisco) Kaszubski. He attended Bloom High School where he excelled in basketball. After high school, he joined the Marines and served heroically in Viet Nam. Upon returning from the war, Butch married the love of his life, Marilyn "Jeanie"" (nee Elliott), on August 12, 1972. Together they welcomed 3 children: Adam (Anne) Kaszubski, Sarah (Tom) Kilpatrick, and Paul (Shannon) Kaszubski. They lived with their children in the Chicago Suburbs, where Butch worked first as an Illinois State Trooper, then Patrol to Commander of Investigations at Orland Park, and finally as Chief of Police in New Lenox, IL. Butch retired to Makanda, where he enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren: Caleb, Emma, Alivia "Lulu" Kilpatrick, Evaline, Finn, Arthur, Eden, Keela, Annaleigh, and William Kaszubski. Butch was preceded in death by his parents, grand-daughter Delia Lee Kaszubski, and niece Michelle "Shelley" Dotson. He is survived by his brother Richard (Lorri) Kaszubski, sister-in-law Linda (Delbert) Dotson, and numerous nieces and nephews. Butch will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and by his church, Connect Point in Anna, IL. The family will receive friends at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 102 E. Francis Rd., New Lenox, IL 60451 on Monday, June 12, 2017, from 3-8 PM. He will lie in State, Tuesday, June 13, 2017, from 10:00 AM until time of Funeral service at 10:30 AM at Parkview Christian Church, 11100 Orland Pkwy, Orland Park, IL 60467. There will be a private Interment, with full military honors, at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL.
