Robert Everts "Gene" born on August 16, 1934 of Coal City, Chicago, Dolton and most recently of Mokena, Illinois peacefully passed on August 26, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loving wife of 59 years and children at his side.
Gene married the love of his life Arlene on June 30th, 1956 and was blessed with four children. He was the "Best of the Best Husband" to Arlene (Bunna) and "The Greatest Dad" to Bob (Ginette) Everts, Bill (Lisa) Everts, Dave (Pam) Everts and Susan (Tony) Doxtater.
Born to Paul and Bess (Schwartz) Everts he was the second of three sons; Grandfather to Angela (Ron), Frankie, Gena, Keenan, Melody (Kaleb), Paul (deceased), Preston, Quinn, and Raeanne; Great Papa of Azylnn, Charlotte, Emmie, Kira, Paige, Quincy, and Tyler.
Preceded in death by his brother Paul (Ruth) Everts; brother to Jerry Everts & Debbie (deceased). Brother-in-Law to Marlene (Bunna) and Dr. James Bianchin, brother-in-law to James (Colby) Bunna. He is a fond Uncle and Great Uncle to his many nieces and nephews.
Gene is a 50+ year A.F.A.M. Lodge # 765 member
He graduated from the tool & die maker apprentice program at Electro-Motive Division of General Motors and as the youngest Plant Supervisor retired after 35 years of service. In 1987 at the age of 52 he continued his passion of training Field Trial Springer Spaniels and managing hunt clubs. He loved the Gunflint Trail in the Boundary Waters of Northern Minnesota to fish and spend time with his family. He had a desire to mentor others and being a key contributor to the success of the Dolton Bears football program as Head Coach, Bears Program Manager and League President. His positive influence was felt by his players and fellow coaches. He was the dad and brother that many never had. He is irreplaceable and will be greatly missed.
A special thanks to the hospice staff at Family Home Health Services for their love and care for our family, especially for Gene.
A memorial gathering will be held on Tuesday, September 1, 2015 from 3:00 PM until time of Memorial service at 5:00 PM at New Life Church of New Lenox, 500 Gougar Road, New Lenox, Ill 60451.
