MILTON GEORGE

Age 89 of Mokena, IL, passed away at Silver Cross Hospital on March 12, 2018. Born December 19, 1928 in Chicago, Illinois and preceded in death by his parents, Beatrice and Michael George, first wife Nancy Louise (nee Pfeiffer), and daughter Judith.

Milton attended Northern Illinois State Teacher's College for his B.S. in education, Northern Illinois University, Dekalb and Loyola University for his M.S. in Education. Milton began his career in education as a teacher at Palos Heights School, District 128. Three years later he moved his talents to Calumet Public Schools, District 132, Calumet Park, Illinois. He held positions of Teacher, Principal, Assistant Superintendent; and retired after twenty-five years as Superintendent in 1991.

Milton also had a long military career which began in 1948 with the U.S. Naval Reserve. Milton enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserve in 1976, retiring with honors in 1988 with forty years of consecutive combined military service with the rank of E9, Sargent Major. He also served on the Palos Heights volunteer fire department from 1952-1961 and served on the Palos Heights Police Department as a patrolman from 1959-1974.

Milton believed in many great causes and gave generously to many charitable organizations, including the Pacific Aviation Museum Pearl Harbor. Milton was an active member and sat on the board of many organizations. These included: Blue Island Citizens for Persons with Developmental Disabilities (Blue Cap), Federal Emergency Management Association (FEMA), founding member of Fort Sheridan Historic Preservation Society, Joliet Antique Auto Club, Joliet Area Theater Organ Enthusiasts, Model 'A' Restorers Club, charter member of the Loyola University Chapter Phi Delta Kappa, Illinois Association for Supervision and Curriculum, Navel Enlisted Reserve Association, among others.

Milton is survived by his wife Lois (nee Horsky); brother Louie (Mary); two sons, Milton (JoAnn), Edwin (Heather); daughter Nancy (Wayne) Thornsbury; six grandchildren, Amanda, Heather (Brandon) Santos, Nick, Michael, Emilia, and Maxwell; three great grandchildren, Claire, Lily, and Emily; two nieces, Michelle, Linette (Andy); a nephew, Steve; as well as numerous relatives in the Czech Republic.

Family will receive friends at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 102 E. Francis Road, New Lenox, IL 60451 on Thursday, March 15th, 2018 from 3:00 to 8:00 PM and again on Friday, March 16th, 2018 from 10:00 AM until time of the funeral service at 11:00 AM.
