Michael H. Cole Sr.

Michael Harvey Cole Sr. arose to the House of our Lord Friday November 26, 2021, age 74.

A lifelong and passionate Chicagoan, Michael was born October 7, 1947 and raised in Ashburn. After dutifully serving in the U.S. Army at Fort Polk, Louisiana, Michael served the city he loved as a bus driver for over 25 years with the Chicago Transit Authority. Upon retiring, he drove a generation's worth of students, or as he endearingly called them, "his most precious cargo", with Illinois School Bus for sixteen years. In his spare time, Michael was a classic car enthusiast, having won numerous accolades, including first prize showcasing his '53 Oldsmobile at neighborhood car shows. Michael was a man brimming with practical knowledge ranging from computers and electronics to mechanical and household knowhow, and never missed an opportunity to impart his wisdom unto the young men who had the privilege of having known him.

He is preceded in death by: his parents Leon and Ethyl (nee Hurst) Cole Sr.; his wife Ellen; sisters Deidra, Sheila, Charlene, and Yvonne.

He is survived by: sons Michael Jr. and Marcus; grandson Terron whom he raised as his own son; daughters Sharvette and Bridget; brothers Leon Jr. and Andre; sisters Donna and Dina; his loving and devoted companion of seventeen years, Elizabeth; Elizabeth's children Kaleena and G.T.; and many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and friends whom he cherished so.

Family will receive friends at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 102 East Francis Road, New Lenox, IL 60451 on Friday, December 3rd, 2021 from 8:00 AM until time of the funeral service at 10:00 AM. Interment with full military honors, Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood IL.

Michael ascended to the Lord having saved twenty lives as an organ donor. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Michael's honor to St. Jude Children's Hospital and the Wounded Warrior Project.

Among so many fond memories, Michael will be remembered for his wholesome laugh.
