Mary T. Grando

Mary T. Grando (nee Sebben), age 87, of Joliet, IL, passed away peacefully with her family by her side Wednesday, January 18, 2023, at Silver Cross Hospital, New Lenox, IL.

Mary was the loving mother of Mary Lou (Tim) Shanahan and Dino (Laura) Grando; cherished grandmother of Jillian (Jason) Rico and CarriAnn (Graham) Margherio; proud great grandmother of Elena Contos; dear sibling of Antonio Pasquale Sebben, Mirella Sebben, Mario Sebben and numerous nieces and nephews who all reside in Italy; and her loyal companion Peanut.

She was the beloved wife of the late Lewie Grando; her parents, Andrea and Caterina (nee Minella) Sebben; and her sister Elide Sebben.

Mary was born in Italy in 1935. She moved to America in 1954 after getting married to her husband Lewie. Mary was extremely good at cooking, especially her homemade gnocchi, and lasagna. Mary enjoyed going to the opera often while living in Italy. In her spare time, she loved crocheting, sewing, shopping, and frequently attending to the Rialto. Mary was always there to help anyone who needed it but was reluctant to ask for help for herself.

The family will receive friends at Kurtz Memorial Chapel on Sunday, January 22, 2023, from 1pm – 4pm. Funeral Services will be on Monday, January 23, 2023, with prayers at the funeral home at 9:30am then to St. Jude Catholic Church, New Lenox for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am. Entombment Resurrection Cemetery.
