Martha "Murph" Hoffmann, spouse of long-time New Lenox physician Dieter Hoffmann, passed away in Lemont, Illinois on Friday, June 1st.

Martha was born at Dallas Pike in Triadelphia, West Virginia to John Salem Strawn and Hazel Riggs Strawn where she grew up on a dairy farm with 10 siblings. She worked as a nurse at Wheeling Hospital in West Virginia where she met Dieter. They moved to New Lenox, Illinois in 1958. They initially set up Dieter's medical practice at their home where Murph practiced as a nurse. She took a hiatus from nursing to focus on raising their children and caring for their home. She was an avid gardener who also enjoyed traveling, entertaining friends and family, and volunteering as a nurse at Salem Village in Joliet, Illinois.

Murph is survived by sisters Marylee and Colleen, brother James, son Dieter (Lynne), daughter Heidi (Eric), grandchildren Brianna, Renate, Corinne & Andrew, and great grandson Nolan.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, www.cancer.org., the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, 220 S. Michigan Ave., Chicago, IL 60604, or a charity of your choice.
