MARIE I. COOK

Age 103 of Joliet, former resident of Lockport, passed away Sunday, January 22, 2017 at Sunny Hill Nursing Home in Joliet.
Marie is survived by her nieces, nephews and a host of longtime friends. She was known as an "Aunt" to Ben, James, Alice and Tom Farnsworth, Larry, Frank Dorr, Jr., Susan Darnell, Frank Meyers, Kathleen Nasenbenny, Ann Therese Goolsby, late Mary Meyers and late Pat Meyers.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas & Anna Irwin (Haag), husband, Farrell Cook, siblings, John "Jack" Irwin, Patrick Irwin; and Harry Irwin, her beloved nephew Thomas Irwin, and dear friends, Dorothy Farnsworth, Marion Dorr and Kathryn Meyers.
Marie graduated from the University of St. Francis in 1935. She owned and operated several businesses in Lockport for 65 years, including the Lockport Hotel, Volz News Agency, Cookie's Clothing and Worldly Things. Marie served on the city of Lockport's Zoning and Planning Board for 42 years. She was the Parade Marshal for Canal Days in 2013 and has been a member of St. Dennis Church since 1940; where she was an honorary member of the CCW.
A memorial mass is scheduled for Friday, February 10th, 2017 at 10:00 AM at St. Dennis Church, 1214 S. Hamilton Street, Lockport, IL 60441. Interment will be private.
