Maria Luisa Patlan Strick

On December 17, 2020 Maria, loving wife of Jerry and mother of four, passed away in the peace and comfort of her home and surrounded by family. Mary Lou grew up in Carrizo Springs, Texas Her parents emphasized the value of an education as they made their living as migrant workers going north every year.

Very soon after her high school graduation Mary Lou decided to move north to Chicago. After a first date at The Italian Village with Jerry, they got married the next year and eventually had four children: Jeff Strick (Ruisa), Mandi Harenberg (Tom), Dan Strick (Melissa) and Mike Strick (Kathy).

As the children got older Mary Lou went back to school to earn her Bachelors and Masters Degrees. She was a certified addictions counselor and helped many people through recovery. She enjoyed time with teenagers through Operation Snowball. She may have never realized the impact she had on many young people , but they remember her. Her career took her from South Metropolitan Association to South Suburban Council on Alcoholism, to the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services connecting with Spanish speaking families. After her retirement she chose to keep supporting families with limited English language abilities by volunteering to take families to hospitals and other needed services.

Maria Luisa was always proud of her upbringing, proud of her children and more proud of her grandchildren; Allie, Erica, Sydney, Nikki, Emma, Jackson, Carly, Joe and Ben.
