Maria A. Lagunas (Matamoros)

Maria Antonia Lagunas passed away on September 30, 2019 surrounded by loving family and friends.  She is the beloved wife of Jorge Lagunas; loving mother of Jorge (Marisa), Alejandro (Tina), Lucio (Jennifer), Citlali (Francisco) Urtiz-Lagunas, Julian (Elizabeth) and Lucinda; affectionate grandmother of 20 adoring grandchildren; beloved sister; aunt to many nieces and nephews she thought of as her own; and dear friend to countless.  She is preceded in death by her parents Eva (Vasquez) and Jose Matamoros, brother Juan Matamoros, and daughter Lucinda. Maria is a loving mother that cherished every moment with her family. She enjoyed running, cooking, cheering family at sporting events, and most importantly being with her family.  Her greatest joy was bringing together family and friends with her signature dishes and togetherness, serving as the core of every family gathering and tradition. Her unwaivering love, kindness, generosity, and warmth will be greatly missed. The family will receive friends at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 65 Old Frankfort Way, Frankfort, IL 60423 on Thursday, October 3, 2019 from 3-9pm.  Funeral mass will be held at St. Benedict Church, 2339 York St., Blue Island, IL 60406 on Friday, October 4 at 10am. Interment St. Benedict Cemetery, Crestwood, IL.
