Margaret Carmen Zeleznik nee Spice

Margaret Carmen Zeleznik, 97, of LeRoy, IL., passed away on Tuesday, April 7, 2015. Margaret was born on April 30, 1917 in Oconto Falls, WI., to Joseph and Augusta (Wolf) Spice. During the depression, the family moved to Joliet when Margaret's father accepted an offer to manage the paper company in Joliet. Margaret married Louis Zeleznik in September of 1937; and after losing their first baby, Janet, in a miscarriage, they had 3 children: Judith, Joe, and Jim. Margaret worked at Hart Schaffner Marx for 23 years, and later at Silver Cross hospital as a receptionist. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church until it closed. Margaret enjoyed golfing and traveling with her husband. After her husband preceded her in death, she and her sister, Helen were constant traveling companions. At the age of 82, she moved to LeRoy, IL where her son, Jim built a home for her. Her last few years have been in the Alzheimer's unit at Le Roy Manor in LeRoy, IL. She is survived by her three children Judith (Bill) Elens, Joe (Sandy) Zeleznik, and Jim (Carol) Zeleznik; 6 grandchildren David Elens, Catherine Elens Lucero, Brett Zeleznik, Heidi Zeleznik Roa, Brian Zeleznik, and Julie Zeleznik Lohnes; and 10 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 102 E. Francis Rd., New Lenox, IL 60451 on Monday, April 13, 2015 from 12:00 Noon until time of funeral service at 1:00 PM. Interment Elmhurst Cemetery, Joliet, IL. In lieu of flowers memorial donations to the National Fragile X Foundation, 2100 M Street, NW, Suite 170 Box 302, Washington DC 20037 would be appreciated.
