Leslie M. Harris

August 17, 1922 — December 27, 2020

Harris, Leslie M., 98, of Tinley Park made his last jump on Dec. 27, 2020. Father of Susan (John) Doolittle of Wheaton; Nancy (John Locascio) O’Hern of Tinley Park, Grandfather of Stephany Bassett and Jess O’Hern, great-grandfather of: Sophia, Tessa and Annie. He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn in 2008 and son, Leslie A. Harris in 2011. Dear friend and companion of Virginia Higdon of Palos Park. Born in Winnipeg, Canada, Leslie was raised in the Chicago area and served in the U.S. Army during WWII. A member of the 101st Airborne Division, 501 Company “Screaming Eagles”, he saw action during the Normandy Landings, Operation Market Garden, and in the Battle of the Bulge and received several medals including the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Leslie was invited to return to the battle sites in Europe, all expenses paid through The Greatest Generation Foundation in 2011. He has also been named a “Chevalier” of the French Legion of Honor and he had the privilege of going on Honor Flight Chicago to Washington, D.C. Leslie was a finished carpenter and master stair builder by trade, an avid golfer, and had skydived for his 70th and 89th birthdays. A Memorial Visitation from 9:00 until time of Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m. will be held on June 4, 2021 at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 65 Old Frankfort Way in Frankfort and a procession to Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery 20953 W. Hoff Road in Elwood for Committal Services. Private Inurnment in the Columbarium following. Memorials may be directed to 501 PIRA Fund, 23 Observatory Point Dr., Wilder, KY 41076-2419 for Leslie M.
