Leroy L. Stege

Leroy Stege, 76, of Matteson, Illinois, moved peacefully into his eternal home with God on Wednesday, May 19, 2021. He was born in Joliet, Illinois on May 8, 1945, to Welma (née Seeman) Stege and Lester Stege. He was a graduate of Rich East High School and became a certified industrial electrician (which skills he used gladly to help friends and family alike.) He was proud to be a maintenance supervisor for 43 years. In his childhood and early adult years he was a farmer on the Stege family farm in Matteson where he built his own home and resided his entire life. He happily retired from Continental Midland 10 years ago and enjoyed those years thoroughly. Leroy was a member at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Richton Park for most of his life where he served as head trustee for many years and was a recent member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Crete, Illinois. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed fishing trips in Minnesota with friends. He was a boater at heart who loved to be on the water, but not in it. Leroy also enjoyed golfing, gardening and was a Chicago baseball fan (though he rooted for the White Sox when it came to a CrossTown Classic.) He is survived by a sister, Betty Erickson; his daughter, Kimberly Standish, and her husband, Devin Standish; three grandchildren, Cassidy, Torben, and Merrick Standish; and his "ladyfriend," Diane Crocombe.

His wake will be held from 3pm to 8pm on May 27th at Kurtz Memorial Chapel in Frankfort. His funeral service will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Richton Park on May 28th and conducted by Pastor Bryan Reeves. There will be a viewing at Immanuel from 11am-12pm, followed by the service beginning at 12pm. In lieu of cut flowers the family has requested potted plants that can be planted in a memorial garden for the family to build together in his memory.
