94, of New Lenox, passed away Saturday, June 11, 2016 at Brookdale, Joliet. Larry was born in Joliet to the late James A. and Lilian (nee Klingloff) Smith. Beloved husband of 68 years of Gloria (nee Edwards); loving father of Leslie (Jerry Lee) Gingery and the late Terry L. Smith; dear brother of James A., Emmett R., Warren, Robert D. and Oliver W. who all preceded him in death; also survived by his beloved schnauzer Mandy. Larry worked for the EJ&E R.R. for 18 years and then Folger Adams for 21 years retiring in 1986. He was a WWII and Korean War Veteran, serving in the Army Air Force as a High Speed Radio Operator, a Radar Operator to spot enemy planes, and he also intercepted Japanese code. He also spent 5 years in the Navy Reserves. Larry was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, New Lenox, American Legion Post 1977, Lifetime Member V.F.W. Post 9545, and Lifetime Member of the Fishing Hall of Fame in Hayward, Wisconsin. He also enjoyed bowling, golfing, baseball, fishing and woodworking. In lieu of flowers Memorials in Larry's name to Honor Flight would be appreciated. Family will receive friends at Kurtz Memorial Chapel 102 E. Francis Rd. New Lenox, IL 60451 on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 from 9:00AM until time of Funeral Service at 11:00AM. Interment Elmhurst Cemetery, Joliet.
