Kenneth C. Lenz Sr.

December 20, 1936 — July 26, 2021

Kenneth C. Lenz, Sr, 84, of Mokena, Illinois passed away on July 26, 2021.
Ken is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Mary Lou (nee Pohlman). Their nearly 70-year romance began as high school sweethearts at Oak Lawn Community High School.
Proud father of Kenneth, Jr (Debby) Lenz, Michael (Natalie) Lenz, David (Joanne) Lenz, Cheryl (Joe) Onesto, Daniel (Colleen) Lenz and Kevin (Michiko) Lenz. Devoted grandfather of Nina, Kamiko, Jeff, Sara, Kenny, Chris, Kristi, Steve, Joseph, Matt, Dan and Sydnie. Great-Grandfather of Kohana and Noah. Beloved son of his late parents Otto Herman, Sr. and Ursula (Bartels) Lenz, brother of the late Otto Herman Lenz, Jr. and the late Robert Oliver Lenz. Also surviving him are numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
A loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to everyone. He was always available to help family and friends wherever and whenever they asked him, often lending a hand without needing to be asked. His sense of humor will be greatly missed but will definitely live on in his children and grandchildren.
After the shell of the house he and his family lived in for over 50 years was framed out, he and his late brother Bob finished the remainder of the two-story house by themselves.
One of his joys was getting away and spending time fishing and relaxing with his family “Up North” at the family’s cottage outside of Conover, Wisconsin.
Ken worked at Andrew Corporation in Orland Park for over 30 years, with most of his time there as Manager of the Shipping and Receiving Department.
A life filled with many passions; Ken was always ready to volunteer where he thought he could help. Early in life, he served as President of the Merrionette Park Volunteer Fire Department. He was always ready to give his time to youth programs as his children were growing up, notably as a Cub Scout leader and youth baseball coach, where he was looked up to as a mentor and friend.
Ken was elected to multiple terms as a member of the Mokena District 159 School Board, serving from 1973-1988, which included being appointed President of the Board by his peers for many of those years.
Ken also served as a Mokena Fire Trustee from 1998 to 2019.
A special thank you to the nurses at Lightways Hospice in Joliet for their loving care and support during his final days.
