Age 74, of Frankfort, IL formerly of South Holland, IL, passed away Sunday, February 28, 2021 at the University of Chicago Hospitals.

Karen was an amazing wife and mother who devoted her life to her family and friends. She was the much-adored wife of the late William E. Zylstra; the beloved mother of Barbara (Curtis) Smith, Marianne (Gary) Vignasse, Lynn (Michael) Coyer, Jennifer (Manuel Ventura) Zylstra; cherished grandmother of Nicole, Patrick, Brendan, Lauren, Helen, Christopher, James, Erin, and Gavin. Karen was preceded in death by her parents Peter and Helen (nee Vandenberg) Connolly.

Karen retired from South Shore Hospital after 40 years of dedicated service. She embraced her Irish heritage, enjoyed traveling, attending the performing arts with good friends, sharing tea with her grandchildren, and visiting with friends. Karen was happiest when dancing with her favorite partner, Bill and spending time with family.

DUE TO THE COVID 19 PANDEMIC, MASKS AND SOCIAL DISTANCING ARE REQUIRED TO ATTEND ALL SERVICES AND NO FOOD IS ALLOWED IN THE FUNERAL HOME AT THIS TIME.

Family will receive friends at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 65 Old Frankfort Way, Frankfort, IL 60423 on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, March 11, 2021 at 11:00 AM at St. Michael Parish, RA1 W. Wilhelm Street, Schererville, IN 46375.
