Joseph F. Krhounek (JFK), 86, of Mauston, WI passed away Saturday, September 18, 2021, surrounded by his daughters Katherine (Krhounek) Harper and Christine (Krhounek) Hussey and his sister Barbara (Krhounek) Schramer. Joseph was born in Frankfort, Illinois and baptized at St. Procopius Catholic Church in Chicago, IL. He married the girl next door, his wife Corrine, and they married at St. Mary Catholic Church in Mokena, Illinois. He raised his the family in Wheaton, IL and enjoyed his retirement with his wife Corrine on their family farm in Necedah, WI.
Joseph proudly served his country in the United States Army while stationed in Gelnhausen, Germany. Joseph was a hard worker all of his life, and had strong values. Prior to his retirement at 55, Joseph had occupations which included proprietor of his own barber business in Chicago, Quality Assurance Engineer for Amphenol, Manager at EATON Corporation, and lastly Correctional Officer for the State of Illinois. He was an active member in the community, serving as Town Supervisor of Cutler, Wisconsin, Neighborhood Watch Chairman, campaign manager, and running for town mayor. He enjoyed politics, making a difference and helping his neighbors, including building a fence for a fellow neighbor after her husband suddenly passed away. He loved the outdoors and travelling. He was very proud of his family and always put them first. Joseph is survived by his daughters, Katherine (Gregory Harper), Christine (Sean Hussey), sisters Barbara Schramer of Mauston, Wisconsin, and Annie Buchek (nephew Sam and niece Kathleen) of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and his six grandchildren; Cameron, Christopher, Mary-Katherine, Kyle, Ryan, and Michael. He is preceded in death by his parents James and Anna, wife Corrine, brothers Anton and James, and brother-in-law Stanley Schramer.
The family will receive friends at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, New Lenox, IL on Friday, September 24, 2021 from 4pm – 9pm. Funeral Services held on Saturday, September 25, 2021 with prayers at the funeral home at 9:30am then to St. Mary Catholic Church, Mokena for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am, followed by interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, in Alsip, IL.
