James Edwards Harbin

March 19, 1942 — June 25, 2021

James Edward Harbin Sr, age 79, passed away on Friday, June 25, 2021 at Silver Cross Hospital.
James is survived by his children, Karen R. (Annemarie Martin) Harbin, Amy (Gary) Harbin-Holman, Sandy (Michael) Lucas- Krull, Jane Woods, and Kim (Orlando) Parra; grandchildren, Jesse Holman, Mason Holman, Cody Harbin, Megan Harbin, Jonathan Lucas, Steven Lucas, and numerous others; daughter-in-law Valarie Harbin; his siblings, Julia (David) Carpenter, Nyna Jane Frantesi, JoAnn Roper, Faye Pryor, Jeff Harbin, Jerry (Gail) Austin, Deloris Elizabeth “Beth” Harbin, Michael Harbin, and Benjamin Harbin; and many other family members and friends.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife Alice (nee Lucas) Harbin; his son James Edward “Jimmy” Harbin Jr; and his siblings, Marie Harbin Moore, Lucy Pepper, Peggy Chandler, Virgie McPherson, Patricia Haire, Jimmy Wayne Harbin, Gene Forrest Harbin, and William “Bill” Harbin.
James served in the U.S. Army where he was marked as a sharpshooter and was awarded a National Defense Service Medal. He worked at General Motors for over 25 years as a truck repairman. He enjoyed his work and even in his pastime he still enjoyed turning wrenches on cars or watching NASCAR. He had a passion for the outdoors where he would spend days boating and fishing. Even though he was well known for loving these activities, nothing scaled in comparison to his love for his family. Family meant the world to him and he deeply cherished his time with them, especially when they would have family game night and would all play cards together. He loved his grandchildren greatly, but this might have come easy to him, since he himself was a child at heart. James was a wonderful man and will be missed greatly by all that knew him.
Services for James will begin with a memorial visitation at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 102 E. Francis Rd. in New Lenox, on Saturday, July 3rd, 2021 from 12pm until the time of service at 3:30pm.
