Irene G. Larson (nee Tomko)
82, late of Orland Park, formerly of Burnham, IL and Dowagiac, MI, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 25, 2014 with her loving family by her side. Irene is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Edwin; three children, Karen (Timothy) Smith, Sandy (Jim) Matura, Ed (Debbie) Larson; nine grandchildren, Lauren, Ryan, Connor, Jim (Megan), Andy, Megan, Kelsey, Eddie and Nick (and her first great grandchild on the way). She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, baby Eddie; a sister and six brothers. Irene was born in Chicago to Mary and Jacob Tomko. She met the love of her life, her husband Ed, got married and began raising their family in Burnham. Irene and Ed owned and operated Pizza Pete in Calumet City for 17 years. Irene loved going to the casinos, playing cards with family and friends, having an occasional sip of Southern Comfort and truly enjoyed life. She was an avid golfer, participating in several leagues. Her greatest golfing accomplishment was getting a hole-in-one. Irene loved spending time at their lake house in Dowagiac, MI. In the winter months, they made their annual "snowbird" trips to Naples, FL. But her biggest joy came from being around her grandchildren. Irene was an inspiration to be around. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend; she will be truly missed by all who knew her. Family will receive friends at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 65 Old Frankfort Way, Frankfort, IL 60423, Wednesday, January 29, 2014 from 3:00 to 9:00 PM. Funeral service, Thursday, January 30, 2014 with prayers at the funeral home at 9:30 AM and then to St. Mary Catholic Church, Mokena for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM. Interment, Chapel Lawn Cemetery, Schererville, IN.
