HERBERT R. JACKSON, JR.
Age 91, passed away on Sunday, August 12, 2012 at Sunrise Assisted Living in Glen Ellyn, IL surrounded by his loving family. Formerly of Frankfort and Flossmoor, IL. Devoted husband for 52 years to the late Alice E. (nee Gainer) Jackson. Mr. Jackson is survived by his children, Carol (Dave) Miller, Herbert R. (Nance) Jackson, III, Thomas D. (DeEdra) Jackson, Lori A. (Mike) Kiefer, James G. (Ann Marie) Jackson, David D. (Melonie) Jackson. Grandchildren David Miller, Alexis (David) Novak, Melissa Miller, Herb (Shannon) Jackson, IV, Dawn (Chris) Blatner, Aaron (Angie) Vassalotti, Chace, Collin Cameron Jackson, Jennifer (Mike) Andre, Allison and Julie Fouts, Amanda, James, Emily Macy Jackson, Zackary, Jacob and Luke Jackson. Great-grandchildren Julia and Scarlett Novak, Christian Blatner, Herbie and Sofia Jackson and his caregiver for the last 7 years, Jaroslaw "Jerry" Mordarski. He proudly served our country in the Army Air Corps during World War II, was shot down on July 19th, 1943 and was a POW in Germany until his release on May 30th, 1944. He married Alice Eileen Gainer on November 26th, 1948 in Danville, IL. He graduated from the University of Illinois and remained a strong supporter throughout the years. He worked for IBM and Simplex before starting his own successful fire alarm company, Affilated Systems, in Downers Grove, IL. He is a former member of St. Anthony's parish in Frankfort and Olympia Fields Country Club. He enjoyed golf, watching football, attending U of I games, and spending time at their Ft. Lauderdale, FL condo at the beach, pool and playing yahtzee. Family will receive friends, Tuesday, August 14th, 2012 at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 65 Old Frankfort Way, Frankfort, IL 60423 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM and again on Wednesday, August 15th, 2012 from 9:00 AM until time of funeral service at 10:00 AM at the funeral home. Interment, Sunset Cemetery, Danville, IL. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Alzheimer's Association or Hospice Foundation.
