89, formerly of Homer Township and Winter Haven, FL passed away Monday, February 5, 2018 at Sunny Hill Nursing Home, Joliet. Hank was born November 19, 1928 in Chicago to the late Gerardus and Antoinette Wingels. Hank was a proud Korean War Veteran of the U.S. Army, having served actively 1950-1952, then in the reserves until 1957. Beloved husband of the late Marie (nee Nitzki); loving father of Gary (Carol) of Greenwood, IN, Jacquelyn (Kenneth) Bersano of Minooka, Robert (Karen) of Wilmette, Donna (Joseph) Herrmann of Shabbona, Nancy (Dennis) Gushurst of West Chicago, and Susan (John) Busse of Zionsville, IN, the late John Edward in infancy, and the late Marilyn "Mimi" Wingels; cherished grandfather of 22 and great grandfather of 11; dear brother-in law of Raymond (Rosemary) Nitzki of Guttenburg, IA; fond uncle of numerous nieces and nephews. Hank married his sweetheart, Marie, October 2, 1954, started their family in Chicago and then moved to Homer Township in 1967. Hank was a realtor with Clauter & Wingels of Chicago and then later with Coldwell Banker Honig-Bell Realty, retiring in 1996, then moved to Winter Haven, FL in 1999 where he said he and Marie "spent the best 11 years of his life." Hank was a founding member, 4th Degree Knight and past Grand Knight of the Fr. Dick Allen Council #10926 Knights of Columbus and longtime member and past President of the Homer Township Lions Club. He was active in St. Jude Catholic Church and Providence High School. Hank was very proud of his family and organized and directed the annual family 4th of July picnic for many years. He loved to fish, win at playing cards, and was an avid pinochle player. In later years, he thoroughly enjoyed watching old movies and shows on his Big screen TV while living at The Timbers of Shorewood. Hank was a faith-filled, true gentleman, and always greeted people with a big smile and hand shake. Hank's family thanks Joliet Area Community Hospice for their loving care of our dear Dad. Family will receive friends at Kurtz Memorial Chapel 102 E. Francis Rd., New Lenox, IL 60451 on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 from 9:00 am until time of prayers at 11:00 am, then to St. Jude Catholic Church, 241 W Second Ave, New Lenox for Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 am.
