Helen L. Tatro

Helen L. Tatro (nee Rodgers) Age 85 died peacefully Tuesday January 24, 2012 at her home with family by her side after a year long battle with Lymphoma. Born in Joliet living in New Lenox since 1960, she is survived by her husband of 66 years, Edward J. Tatro, children, Linda (Barry) Pfeifer, and Edward A. (Karen) Tatro, seven Grandchildren, Christopher (Amy) Pfeifer, Jayna (Nick) Perez, Jennifer (Pedro) Romero, Edward E. (Heather) Tatro, Dr. Elizabeth (Greg) Grossart, Amy Tatro and April Tatro. Nine great grandchildren, Cole, Macy, Jacob Roy, & Rex Pfeifer, Colin & Owen Perez, Joshua Romero, Zoë and Courtney Tatro, plus numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded by her parents Stephen W. and Catherine (Hailstones) Rodgers and nine siblings, Eliza (Howard) Weir, John Rodgers, Jane (Marty) Mudroch, Agnes (Wally) Christianson, Catherine Rodgers, Stephen Jr. (Josie) Rodgers, Mary (Al) Zeigler, William Rodgers and Richard (Delores) Rodgers also a great grandson Riley J. Romero. Helen retired after 32 years at Silver Cross Hospital in 1986. A graduate of JTHS "44. Helen was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church and Chancel Guild, a former Forest Park School PTO President, and an officer in various bowling and golf leagues. She bowled, played golf, volleyball, softball, cards, and especially enjoyed many summer days at her pool with family and friends. Helen will be remembered for her active lifestyle, service to church and leadership in various organizations, plus her support and enjoyment of family members' sports, musical and church activities, faithfully documenting family events and trips with pictures and albums. Her grandkids and great grandkids always looked forward to an ice cream cone at Grandma Helen's. In lieu of flowers a donation to Trinity Lutheran Church of New Lenox or Joliet Area Hospice. Family will receive friends at the Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 102 E. Francis Rd. New Lenox, IL 60451 on Sunday, January 29, 2012 from 2-7PM. Funeral Monday, January 30, 2012 with visitation from 10:00AM until time of services at 11:00AM at Trinity Lutheran Church, New Lenox. Interment Private at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL.
