Helen "Jean" McPartlin
Born: June 5, 1926
Died: May 8, 2017
With family surrounding her, Jean answered the Lord's call and quickly slipped from this earth into her heavenly home to join her much missed spouse, Art, who passed before her in 2014. They were high school sweethearts married for 66 years. Jean was born in Joliet to Floyd and Helen Garrett, grew up in Ingalls Park, graduated from Joliet Township High School class of 1944 and resided in Cherry Hill Subdivision for 57 years Jean was never happier than when surrounded by family and friends. She loved Hostessing celebrations of which there were many having given birth to seven children. She was called great grandma (GG) to 29 much loved children ranging in age from 18 to less than a year. Jean was happy to be a homemaker and stay at home mom, although she was rarely at home. She was the taxi driver for all the kids' activities: scout leader for 17 years, official bleacher sitter for many sports for her kids and grandkids. When her kids were at home she took them skating on Hickory Creek, sledding on Snaky Hill, and hopped on the back of the sleds. Quantity cooking was her specialty, she loved to make bread, bake pies, and create holiday chocolate candies a McPartlin family tradition. She played tennis into her mid 70's, loved her flowers and vegetable garden, canning, and freezing the bounty. She played pinochle with the card club from high school, Sunday nights with the family and bunco right up to her last days. Jean was a member of the Council of Catholic Women at St. Jude's Church New Lenox and an active parish member. She and Art loved to dance. Their greatest love, however, was traveling the country in their motor home, Jean as the navigator and keeper of records of every trip taken from 1945 onward.
