Gregory Andrew Toombs, 61, of Homer Glen, IL, died July 24, 2018, after a valiant, five-year battle with lung cancer. Stop smoking, he’d tell you right now if he could, and then he’d share how hard that was for him. Greg was never shy with advice or empathy, as grieving family and friends know well.
He had a huge heart and a sharp wit. Though a true artist in any medium he chose, Greg was most passionate about music. His guitar work with bands at Berklee College of Music in Boston, in Philadelphia and, later, in the Chicago area earned him fans whenever he played.
Greg was a therapist by profession, with an emphasis on mindfulness-based acceptance and commitment therapy. He practiced at Trinity Services and Great Changes Counseling Services, both in Illinois.
Greg was born in Philadelphia, Pa., to June Orchard Bear and the late Richard A. Toombs.
He shared more than 25 years with his loving wife, Amy Kight Toombs. Also mourning him are his son, Matthew Law (Leslie Juarez); sister, Laurie T. Conrad (Anthony Donato), and nephew Benjamin Conrad (Sonia). Also remembered are his late stepfather, Dr. Fred T. Bear, his best friend, Nick Susiak, many other good friends and, of course, his dogs. The family will receive friends at Kurtz Memorial Chapel 102 E. Francis Rd., New Lenox, IL 60451 on Sunday, August 5, 2018, from 2 p.m., with a Celebration of Life at 5 p.m. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Trinity Services.
