George P. Passas

George passed away Saturday, June 30, 2018 in the care of the Hospice Center of Joliet, IL. He was surrounded by his family in his final days. George P. Passas leaves behind his loving and supporting wife Catherine of 47 years, their only son Peter John, daughter in-law Lisa and two grandsons Jonathan and Nathan. Also surviving George is his best friend and loving brother Peter Jr.
On July 22, 1947, George P. Passas was born to the his parents Peter Passas(deceased 2005) and Alice Skiniotes-Passas (deceased 2007) at Silver Cross Hospital in Joliet, IL. For 70 years, George has been a New Lenox resident and grew up with his parents and brother on W. Francis Rd. When he married his bride Catherine they moved one block over from his childhood stomping grounds. In 1965, George graduated from Lincoln Way Central. George was a brilliant student and top of his class. He was class president and played drums in band. After graduating high school he attended Joliet Jr College in Joliet.
George was a loyal, honest and hard working man. He started his career with Brown and Lambrecht then pursued the American Dream by starting his own trucking and excavating business with his brother in New Lenox. He then concluded his career with TJ Lambrecht as a Supervisor when he retired while in his early 60’s. When asked what he was going to do with his free time he said, “watch The Price Is Right” which he did daily.
Family and friends will remember George for devotion to his family, love of animals and cars. He had mechanic skills and was able to fix anything with an engine or that required a tool.
Our lives now have an empty space where a very special man once filled. He will truly be missed at family birthday parties, holiday gatherings, special occasions but mostly in the first row at his grandsons basketball games. A day won’t pass when George is not thought of or talked. For the few selected people in George’s life you will find yourself missing those special conversations in which Georges freely shared his options, offered advice and maybe even strong argument (insert laughter). He will always have a special place in our hearts and he will be truly missed.
Services for George P. Passas were on Tuesday July 3, 2018 at Kurtz Funeral Home in New Lenox. George had a private gathering for his family. Donations in remembrance of George can be made to Joliet Area Community Hospice of Joliet or P.A.W.S of Tinley Park.
