George Carlin McCabe
Age 90, of Orland Park since 2009, formerly of Flossmoor, passed away peacefully Thursday, June 22, 2017 at Smith Crossing, a senior living community. Beloved husband of Mary Ellen, wedded for 65 years. Loving father of Jane (Jim) Dugan, Anne (the late Bill) Pierce, Tim (Meg) McCabe, the late Marty (Nori) McCabe, Bill (Mary Jo) McCabe and Tom (Dianna) McCabe. Adored grandpa to 13 and great-grandpa to 4. Loving uncle to many.
He was born the youngest of four on October 30, 1926, in Chicago and was raised on the south side. He often made the comment that he was in the 7th grade before he realized there were other people in the world besides Irish, Catholic, Democratic White Sox Fans. He attended St. Columbanus grade school and graduated from DeLaSalle Institute where he played varsity basketball. George was a proud US Naval Veteran serving in WWII. After his discharge he attended St. Mary's College in Winona, MN and graduated in 1950. George spent many years in the insurance business and later established his own firm, Consolidated Pension Consultants, Inc. in 1967. He and Mary Ellen were residents of Flossmoor for over 45 years and active parishioners of Infant Jesus Of Prague Catholic Church. They were regular members of Olympia Fields C.C. where he enjoyed many friendships and golf for 52 years. Their move to Smith Crossing in 2009 brought them 8 years of independent living together. His family would like to thank all the staff, caregivers and the many friends who have made these last 8 years so wonderful. Family will receive friends at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 65 Old Frankfort Way, Frankfort, IL 60423 on Sunday, June 25th 2-7PM. Funeral Service Monday, June 26th with prayers in the funeral home at 9:15AM to St. Mary's Catholic Church, 19515 115th Ave, Mokena, IL 60448 for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Alsip, IL.
