Beloved husband of Marianne (nee Glaser); dearest father of Susan (late Richard Einhorn, late Lawrence Gempka), Pamela (Tom) Sekulski, Cathleen (Bernard) McMahon, the late Diane Smyth, Gene (Lily) Smyth and Laura (Alan) Bakotic. Dear grandfather of Richard (Misty) Einhorn, Matthew (Nicki) Einhorn, Lisa (Ryan) Behounek, Thomas (Misty) Sekulski, Brian (Natasha) McMahon, Erin (Brandon) Theobald, Michael Eugene (fiancée Katie) McMahon, Rebecca, Melanie, Abigail and Anna Bakotic. Fond great-grandfather of Allison and Holly Behounek, Cameron and Avery Einhorn, Mallory and Trey Theobald and Morgan and Andrew Eugene Sekulski.
A veteran of the Korean war, Gene was the son of the late Howard and Margaret Smyth, brother of the late Howard (Jean) Smyth, Edward (Florence) Smyth, Joseph (Lucille) Smyth, and the late Margery.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Camp Quality, which provides a summer camping experience and a year-round support program, for children with cancer.
The family will receive family and friends at Kurtz Memorial Chapel 102 E. Francis Rd, New Lenox on Thursday, January 4, 2018 from 3:00pm – 8:00pm. Funeral Service will be on Friday, January 5, 2018 with prayers at the funeral home at 9:30am to St. Jude Catholic Church for Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am. Interment St. Mary's Cemetery, Evergreen Park, IL.
