A resident of Wanatah, IN formerly of Park Forest, IL, passed away on Thursday, December 28, 2017 at age 73. Husband of Patty Staehlin; former husband of Diane; Beloved father of Edward (Beth) Staehlin, Jr., Donna (Jeremy) Bell, Angie (Brian) Stark and Caily Hilliar; step-father of Scott (Karen) Proper and Brian (Mariana) Proper; Beloved brother of Bob (Linda) Staehlin, Ron Staehlin, Jim (Ieva) Staehlin and Bill (Lorrie) Staehlin; Proud Papa of Nicole, Charlie, Kyle, Jory, Jack, Jillian, Grace, Ethan, Phoebe, Gabriel and Zayden; Dear uncle to many nieces and nephews, step-children and step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Bob and Frances Staehlin. Edward worked for the Federal Railroad Administration as a Chief Hazardous Materials Inspector. He was an avid volleyball player, enjoyed bonfires, gardening and trains. He will be most remembered as a loving family man, known for his generosity, kindness, and willingness to lend a hand to anyone at any time. The family will receive friends at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 65 Old Frankfort Way, Frankfort, IL 60423 on Monday, January 1, 2018 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM and again on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 from 10:00 AM until time of funeral service in the funeral home at 11:00 AM, Rev. Brian Stark officiating. Interment will follow to Chapel Garden South, Oak Lawn. The committal service will be held in the Mausoleum Chapel (indoor).
