Donald L. Benkendorf Sr.

Age 86, of New Lenox, IL passed away at home on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Don was born in Chicago, IL to the late Marvin and Cecile (nee Houde) Benkendorf. Beloved husband of Wanda (nee Carney) Benkendorf; loving father of Donald (Cathleen) Benkendorf Jr. and Carin (Tod) Kamleiter; cherished grandfather of Andrew (Nancy Trombley) Marquardt, Donald Benkendorf III, Jeffery Benkendorf, and Alison (Jacob Wolf) Marquardt; dear brother of the late Allen (late Judith) Benkendorf, Yvonne (late Donald) Anderson, Dennis (late Lyn) Benkendorf, and David Benkendorf: loved uncle, cousin, and friend of many. A retired butcher Don entered the real estate business eventually acquiring several RE/MAX offices. Don retired as the Real Estate Broker/Owner of RE/MAX All Properties with offices in Frankfort, New Lenox, Tinley Park and Bourbonnais. He was past President of the Hazel Crest Lions Club, and a proud U.S. Navy Veteran. Don had a passion for travel and was an avid scuba master; a hobby he enjoyed sharing with his grandchildren. Don was a witty character who always brought joy and laughter to all those around him. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. The family will receive friends at Kurtz Memorial Chapel 102 E. Francis Rd, New Lenox, IL on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, from 3pm – 8pm. Funeral services Wednesday, November 22, 2023, with prayers at the funeral home at 9:30am then to St. Jude Catholic Church, New Lenox, IL for Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am. Interment with full military honors at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL.
