70, of New Lenox formerly of Tinley Park, passed away Wednesday, September 30, 2020 at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Chicago, IL. Denise was born in Chicago to the late Ralph and Florence (nee Sherretz) Thomas. Loving mother of Erica (Mark) Oberts and Evan Akers; cherished grandmother of Matthew, Olivia, and Owen Oberts; dear sister of the late Reginald Thomas, Jonelle (Jerry) Grigsby, and Jay Thomas; loved aunt of Jerilyn Kozek and Jamie (Amy) Kozek and great aunt of Nick and Stefani Kier and Brooklyn Kozek. Denise was a former teacher in Tinley Park School District 140 and former Principal in Evergreen Park School District 124. In lieu of flowers memorials in Denise’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital would be appreciated. Family will receive friends at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, New Lenox on Monday, October 5, 2020 from 2pm – 8pm. Funeral Service Tuesday, October 6, 2020 with prayers at the funeral home at 9:30am to St. Jude Catholic Church for Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am.
