David Michael Johnson (70) of Frankfort, IL passed away suddenly on April 15, 2019.
The cleverest of men, humor that shone brightly in all our lives. Loving, loyal, the best of friends, a true original.
Soulmate of Sharon Elizabeth Johnson for 45 years, exceptional father to Emily Bryn (Johnson) Mosler, Charles Thayne Johnson, and Christopher Thomas Johnson. Loving father-in-law to Jason Mosler (Emily), Katharine Johnson (Christopher), and Carmen Johnson (Charles). Proud grandfather of Wesley Charles Johnson. Fond brother-in-law of George and Vicki Rechner of North Royalton, OH and quirky uncle to Stacy, Gary (Amanda), and Cory (Aaron) Pankrantz. Enthusiastic cousin to Gloria Morgan and Nancy McCullough of Morganfield, KY and Richard and Joyce Dietz of Carlsbad, CA. David was born in Lafayette, Indiana to Mary (Grabert) Johnson and Charles Thomas Johnson III.
David served as a U.S. Marine, honorably discharged in 1969. He graduated from Glenbrook South High School in Illinois and received a BFA from Kent State University in Ohio. A brilliant actor/director and teacher, David taught Speech & English for many years at Wadsworth High School in Wadsworth, Ohio.
David was a proud member of Commerce Lodge 121 of the Free & Accepted Masons of Michigan. He loved being a Scoutmaster for Troop 237 in Signal Hill District in Lake Zurich, Illinois and was Scoutmaster of the Year in 1993. He was also a Brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow in Lakota Lodge #175.
He enjoyed photography, trivia, Patrick O’Brian books, crossword puzzles, Roman history, sailing, traveling, watching Formula One racing, old movies and magic tricks.
David worked with Air Draulics in Wheeling, IL, Training Director at Numatics Inc in Highland, MI and Director of Training for SMC Pneumatics USA before becoming Director of Human Resources for MJ Holding in Chicago from 2003 to 2014, when he retired.
Memorial Visitation will be held from 12pm to 3pm, Memorial Service from 3pm to 4pm, at Kurtz Memorial Chapel in Frankfort, IL on Saturday, May 18th. Friends and family invited to family home following the memorial service.
David’s final resting place will be in Bellefontaine Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Indiana at the Johnson family burial plot.
