Charles Nebes, Jr.

June 3, 1949 — March 2, 2023

Charles Nebes Jr. (“Chuck”) passed away peacefully on March 2, 2023. Chuck is survived by his beloved wife Becky; daughter Keri (Kyle) Vester; son Steven Nebes and grandchildren Julia and Lilian. In addition, he is survived by his sister Sue (Pat) Madden; Bruce (Theresa) Nebes; mother-in-law Lois Stetzler; sister-in-law Sandi (George) Burrier, brother-in-law Jerry Stetzler, brother-in-law David (Sonja) Stetzler and many nieces and nephews.

Chuck loved his family and friends dearly and adored his grandchildren. Chuck's favorite pastime was cooking and spending time with friends. He was always the one to set the menu and run the kitchen; everyone understood it was best to stay out of his way. He also enjoyed playing games – card games or his new favorite pastime of hide and seek with his granddaughters. He will always be remembered as “Papa” by some of his greatest supporters. A gentle giant of a man, Chuck loved supporting all those around him. Chuck was always one to lend a helping hand whenever there was a need. He would help fix anything or volunteer when needed. Friends still talk about when he ran the hot dog cart at the neighborhood party or when he won the prize for best chili at the local chili cook off. When Chuck was not cooking, he was tending to his garden or enjoying feeding the birds.

Chuck studied mathematics at the University of Illinois and earned his Masters of Science from Governors State University. Chuck began his career at the Chicago Board of Education, moving to Elmhurst College and finishing his career at Governors State University. Chuck enjoyed his second career working for the Frankfort Township Assessor for 20 years.

Chuck will be deeply missed by his family and friends. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Donations can be made in Chuck’s honor to the American Diabetes Association. Funeral arrangements handled by Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 65 Old Frankfort Way, Frankfort IL 60423, kurtzmemorialchapel.com or 815-806-2225
