Bessie Darlene Stepek (nee Brkal) (also affectionately known as Granny and Granny B)

Age 102, of New Lenox, IL passed away on Sunday, March 26, 2023, at her home. Bess was born in Chicago, IL to the late Samuel and Anna (nee Melicharek) Brkal. Beloved wife of the late Charles H. Stepek Jr; loving mother of the late Valerie (Larry) Jontz, Charles H. Stepek III, and Cindy (Kirk) Poenicke; cherished grandmother of Paul Poenicke and Andy Poenicke; dear sister of the late Ann, the late Emily, the late Betty, and the late John; loved aunt numerous nieces and nephews. Bess was employed as a manager at Marshall Field’s and Co. for 36 years, retiring in 1989. She enjoyed travelling and visited 25 countries. Private family services will be held.
