Arlene Sladek

September 3, 1942 — April 17, 2022

Arlene Sladek, age 79, passed away Sunday, April 17th, 2022, at Sunny Hill Nursing Home with her family by her side.

Arlene is survived by her husband David Sladek; children, Tracy (James) Latek, Scott (Mary) Sladek, Steven (Alisa) Sladek; grandchildren Michael, Jonathan, Simon, Jesse, Jack, Ethan, Caleb; siblings, Verna Jean (late Richard) Johnson, Kenneth (Carolyn) Watt, and Glenn (Debbie) Watt; sister-in-law Eileen (Paul) Surowiec, father-in-law Bruce (Char) Sladek; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents Andrew and Evelyn Watt; mother-in-law Rondie Sladek; brother-in-law Gary Sladek, and sister-in-law Janie Sladek.

After graduating from Teachers College, Arlene started her career at Christ Hospital in the X-ray office. She then went on to work for the State of Illinois in the Real Estate Division, where she became the first woman in charge of state commercial property rentals for northern Illinois.
After learning of her pregnancy with her third child, Steven, she decided to pause her career to raise her children. In 1994, she went to work for State Rep. Maureen Murphy. She finished out her career at Worth Township, as the Executive Administrator. She retired after 17 years in 2014, at the age of 72.

Throughout her life, Arlene spent her time as part of various organizations including the PTA, multiple church boards, and teaching Sunday school. Her home was always open to family and friends in need. In retirement, Arlene enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Above all else, she enjoyed being by the side of her beloved husband of 50 years, David.

The family is comforted by the knowledge of her faith and knowing that she is now at peace with Jesus, her savior. James 1:12 “Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.”
