Andrew J. DeWitt

Age, 32 a resident of Rapid City, South Dakota formerly of New Lenox, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 15, 2020. Loving husband of Rebecca ( nee Egbert) DeWitt; beloved son of Robert (Patrice) DeWitt, Jr. and Mary ( nee Faulkner) DeWitt; dearest brother of Michael DeWitt; cherished son-in-law of Ed and Sue Egbert; fond brother-in-law of Isaac Egbert and Joshua Egbert; dear step brother of Michelle (AL) Throw and Renee (Paul) Christiansen.
A.J. relocated to South Dakota in 2011 to embrace a new and more abundant life. Through his experiences at Master’s Commission at Bethel Church and his studies at West Coast Bible College where he earned a Bachelor of Christian Counseling degree, he enhanced his love and understanding of his Lord and Savior. With boldness he shared his relationship with Jesus Christ, especially to children, while a Youth Director at Bethel Church and his various positions at the Rapid City YMCA. He also was willing to share his own successes and failures, to help and encourage those struggling with the chains of substance abuse. While in SD, he forged many relationships; it was there where he met and married his beloved Rebecca in 2015. Together they shared ministry, hiking, bike riding and a love of board games as well as the ups and downs of daily living. A.J. embraced his freedom to “bear arms” and enjoyed rifle and target shooting and hunting. To his own amazement, he built a rifle from scratch, and shot his first deer which he butchered while watching a YouTube video. He was extremely proud of winning the Bethel Father’s Day 3 Gun competition while his father looked on. If he was not involved with his gun collection, you would find him tinkering with sewing, wood and electrical projects. To know A.J. was to know his political views: Make America Great Again. It is a motto he wanted not only for his country, but also for himself; A.J. struggled to make himself great again with the help of God. It is our hope, that A.J.'s successes and failures will continue to teach and guide those that knew him. Today, although our hearts are grieving, we take solace in the fact that he is now in the arms of a just, loving and merciful God.
