Amie Hyman

Amie Hyman-McPartlin, age 65, of Chicago area, Illinois, passed away on December 6, 2021 after beating the odds of advanced lung cancer for four and a half years with spirit and determination and grace.

Amie was predeceased by maternal grandmother Bessie (Buby) Kopp, and parents Milton and Anne Hyman. She is survived by her loving, patient and endlessly giving husband, Tim McPartlin; Tim’s children: Andy (Tasha) McPartlin and their two children Jackson and Connor; Tracey (Rich) Zaleski and their two children Caelin and Elise; and Ian (Christine) McPartlin and their three children Natalie, Collin, and Logan. Amie is also survived by her brother Bill (Mary Ann) Hyman; her sister, Karmit (Charlie) Bulman, and Karmit’s three children Elana (Mark) Laichena and their child Eli, Jeremy (Devon) Bulman, and Bessie Bulman. She was also survived by her two much-loved cats: Master Jasper and Mr. Puff.

Amie was born on September 7, 1956 to Anne and Milton Hyman in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She grew up in Hyde Park, lived in Haifa, Israel for two years, then returned to Evanston to remain in the Chicago area for the rest of her life. After graduating from Chicago Public High School for Metropolitan Studies in 1974, she pursued her undergraduate degree at University of Illinois at Champaign before receiving her Master’s Degree in Social Work at University of Chicago.

Amie had many passions in life. She always wanted to help people, which led to her career in social work, following in the footsteps of both of her parents. Most recently she ran her own business, HeartFelt Solutions for Seniors. Amie held strong convictions on social issues. She stood enthusiastically for women’s rights and was an advocate for the LGBTQ community and many other activist movements. Another thing that brought Amie pure joy was her love of nature. She loved taking hikes through the woods of Sandy Pines (Union Pier, Michigan), long bike rides with her husband, Tim, and being on the beaches of Hawaii. Most of all, Amie enjoyed simply spending time with her family, especially when she got to be with her grandchildren.

Amie was remarkably unfiltered and often goofy. She was one of those rare people who holds on to a sense of childlike wonder and awe. This amazing, resourceful, positive, enthusiastic, loving, warm, smart and warrior woman died the day after returning from a two week trip to Hawaii. She soaked up every last moment she had and is in a place of peace and will continue to live on in our hearts forever.

Services will be held Thursday, December 9, 2021 at 10:30 am at the Kurtz Memorial Chapel in New Lenox (102 East Francis Road New Lenox, IL 60451). Doors open at 10:00 am for visitation.
