George M. Petty

Age 88 of New Lenox, IL passed away Sunday, May 10, 2026, at his home surrounded by his loving family. George was born in Kingston, Jamaica to the late Virgil M. and Rosaline E. (nee Galan) Petty.

Beloved husband of Rose A. (nee Finigan) Petty; loving father of Bryan (Liz) Finigan, Simia (Christina) Rodriguez, and Karl (Michele) Petty; cherished grandfather of Aidan, Otto, Mason, Axel, and Olivia; dear sister of Audrey (late Wayne) Yackel; loved aunt, cousin, and friend of many.

George was a retired Professor from Olive-Harvey College, City Colleges of Chicago, where he taught Physics and Mathematics for 28 years. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force. George was the patriarch of the family and loved to spend time with family and friends and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Private services were held, with full military honors, at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL.
