Obituary

Ellen P. McAdams (Flynn), age 86, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Tuesday, August 25, 2026.

She is survived by her devoted children, Monica (Jerry) Schmitt and John (Megan Brooks), and her adored grandchildren JT (Tara) Schmitt, Molly (Matthew Berhman) Schmitt, Elizabeth McAdams, Josephine Schmitt, MaryKate McAdams, and John Schmitt.

She is also survived by her brother, Eugene (Nancy) Flynn, and sister, Maggie (Bob) Opal; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and her ex-husband, Thomas McAdams. She was preceded in death by her parents, Francis J. and Mary E. (nee Lyons) Flynn, her brother, Fr. James Flynn, and her sister, Laurette Dennie.

Born in Chicago, she attended Resurrection Parish Grade School, Sienna High School, and DePaul University. Throughout her years of education, she formed many lifelong friendships and cherished the lasting connections she made along the way.

Ellen lived a life centered on faith, friendship, and family. She found strength, peace, and comfort in her faith and in the power of prayer. She was blessed with cherished friendships throughout every chapter of her life and was a thoughtful and caring friend who always made time to listen, reach out, and be there for others.

Above all, Ellen treasured time with her family. She taught her family the importance of love, faith, forgiveness, and gratitude. Her kindness, humor, prayers, and unconditional love will be deeply missed and forever cherished.

A visitation will be held at Kurtz Memorial Chapel 102 E. Francis Rd., New Lenox, IL on Sunday, August 30, 2026 from 2 PM - 6 PM. Funeral Services Monday, August 31, 2026 with prayers at the funeral home at 10:30 AM then to St. Jude Catholic Church, 241 W. 2nd Ave New Lenox, IL for Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM. Interment will be private at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside, IL.
