Dorothy Ann Cichon, née Sniegowski

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our mom, Dorothy Ann Cichon, née Sniegowski, on August 7, 2026, just 10 days before her 90th birthday.

Dorothy was born on August 17, 1936, in Lemont, Illinois, to Casimer V. Sniegowski and Stella H. Sniegowski, née Wietrzykowski. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Margaret McCarville, née Sniegowski, and the love of her life, our dad, Richard J. Cichon.

Our parents met at St. Mary of Nazareth Hospital, where Dad was an X-ray technician and Mom was a nurse. They married on November 17, 1962, and shared a love that lasted a lifetime. Mom loved Dad more than words could ever express. After his passing on September 8, 1997, a part of her heart was always with him.

Dorothy worked as a nurse at St. Mary of Nazareth Hospital and eventually became the Emergency Room Director, a position she held until 1967. From then on, her greatest calling was being a mother. She devoted herself completely to her family and made them the center of her life.

She was the kind of mother who was always there. She spent countless nights helping with homework and never complained about the long hours. No matter what was going on, she always found a way to make sure everyone was taken care of. She was strong, selfless and generous, with a heart that always seemed to have room for everyone.

Her children were her world: Dr. Bryan Cichon and his wife Kristi; Keith Cichon and his wife Heather; and Michelle Gonzalez and her husband Carlos.

Her nine grandchildren brought her tremendous joy: Kyle Cichon, Ryan Cichon, Tyler Cichon, Adam Cichon, Nathan Cichon, Gabriella Posey, Nicolas Gonzalez, Max Gonzalez and Noah Gonzalez. She was also blessed with a great-grandson, August Rhett Posey.

Family was everything to Dorothy. Holidays were especially important. She took great pride in bringing everyone together around the table and filling the house with food, laughter and traditions. Some of our fondest memories are simply being together around her table for family dinners.

She loved to laugh and never took life too seriously. She enjoyed art, loved animals and had a definite sweet tooth. She also enjoyed an occasional trip to the casino to try her luck on the slot machines. She had a gift for making even ordinary moments memorable.

For almost 40 years, Barrington was home. Later in life, she spent time living with each of her children. Being surrounded by family was where she was happiest.

There are so many things we will miss: her laugh, her cooking, the way she worried about everyone, her strength, her generosity and her stories. Most of all, we will miss knowing that no matter what life brought our way, she was always there.

She gave us a lifetime of love, memories, traditions, recipes, laughter and lessons that will stay with us forever. Her greatest gift was the family she created and the love she gave so freely.

Your love will stay with us forever, and the memories we made together will always be a part of who we are.

After 28 years apart, we find comfort in knowing that Mom and Dad are finally together again.

Visitation will be held on August 21, 2026, at Kurtz Funeral Home in Frankfort, Illinois, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at St. Cyril and Methodius Church in Lemont, Illinois. Entombment will be at St. Michael’s Cemetery in Palatine, Illinois.
