David Allen Harris

Age 83 of New Lenox, IL, passed away Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at Lightways Hospice and Serious Illness Care, Joliet, IL. Dave was born in Oak Lawn, IL to the late Harold and Marguerite (nee Laurent) Harris.

Beloved husband of Mary Lou (nee Butz) Harris; loving father of Robert Harris and Terry Harris (Megan); adoring grandfather of Victoria, Jack, Emma, Ryan and Abby Harris; dear brother of Sandra Harris; loved uncle, cousin, and friend of many. Dave was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Donald and Richard.

Dave was a proud U.S. Navy Veteran. He was enlisted in the Navy from 1960-1963. He served on the USS Bugara 331 submarine as a torpedoman. Later in life, he enjoyed reconnecting with submarine veterans as an active member of USSVI-USS Chicago Base. David was employed by Caterpillar Inc. for thirty years in various management positions, retiring in 1994. He was also an active board member at the NuMark Credit Union for many years. Dave was the rock of his family who was always there to help his family and friends. He loved cars and rock and roll music from the 1950’s. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Burial with full military honors at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL will take place at a later date.
