JANET LOUISE NEAL
(PATON)

Janet Louise Neal was born to Eleanor (nee Zimmerman) Paton and John Walter Paton on March 18, 1920 in Joliet, IL. She passed from this world on July 28, 2018 at the age of 98. Survived by her daughter, Nancy Nelson (nee Newkirk), her son-in-law Lee Nelson and her beloved kitty; Pipa whom she loved dearly. She is also survived by her cousin, Elaine Neilis. Janet was preceded in death by her parents, her 1st husband Ray Chapman, her 2nd husband Robert Newkirk and her 3rd husband Donald Neal.

Janet attended Joliet schools graduating from Joliet Twp. High School, class of 1938. She went to Joliet Business College becoming a secretary at Phoenix Horseshoe Company. She later worked at the Joliet Ammunition plant during World War II. After the death of her ailing mother, for whom she was a caregiver for many years she returned to the work force and eventually succeeded Harold Whiteside as the director of the Will County Senior Services Center. She worked there for many years, quitting; to care for her unwell husband, Robert Newkirk. After his death; she worked for the Heritage Bank and for the Will County Senior Services Center for their Meals-on-Wheels program, cooking the meals until her retirement at the age of 85.

Janet was a very kind and generous person volunteering her creative abilities by crocheting lap robes for the surgical floor at St. Joseph Hospital and knitting baby bonnets for the nursery.

Family will receive friends at Goodale Memorial Chapel, 912 S. Hamilton Street, Lockport, IL 60441 on Thursday, August 9th, 2018 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Funeral service, Friday, August 10th, 2018 at 10:00 AM at the funeral home. Interment, Elmhurst Cemetery, Joliet IL.
